Congratulations Judy Murray
Judy Murray, the renowned tennis coach and mother to tennis superstars Andy and Jamie Murray, was chosen as the recipient of this year’s prestigious Great Scot Award by The National Trust Scotland USA. Judy accepted the award in New York City’s Metropolitan Club on 20th April. Her outstanding contributions to the world of tennis and sportsmanship were recognised at the annual dinner of the American friends of the Scottish National Trust.
Previous honorees of this award include Brian Cox, Billy Connolly and Denise Mina.
Judy wore a silk tartan and organza dress to attend the event.
We were delighted when Judy Murray reached out to us to design an elegant dress that would match the significance of the occasion and celebrate Scottish heritage.
Having previously designed Judy Murray’s mother of the groom outfit for Andy Murray’s wedding as well as an outfit for her attending Wimbledon’s Royal Box, Judy contacted Joyce Young knowing she would find an elegant and flattering dress which would be comfortable and fit perfectly.

This elegant look features a Tartan Spirit dress and a black organza bodice. With a stand up collar, open back and godet pleating on the skirt.
In the next step of the design process, Joyce’s sketches are brought life.
Our highly skilled, in-house production team in Glasgow are responsible for crafting the garment.
They begin by creating a cotton toile in black. This is used for a fitting appointment where the dress is pinned to fit perfectly.
Our team of experts then go to work to create the dress in the silk tartan and organza paying close attention to every detail to ensure that the finished product is exquisite.

During the fitting process for her bespoke dress, Judy Murrays eye was caught by a Joyce Young Tartan Spirit coat in our Glasgow showroom.
She fell in love with the design and opted to wear it to the V&A Tartan exhibition opening in Dundee.
